Social Media Reel for Lyric Zine Concept
A fan art lyric zine for Submarine, the second album of The Marías.
I grew up perusing OPM music magazines in the Philippines. They had lyrics for a bunch of songs in the early 2000s. As a visual learner, I loved seeing the words on paper. Even now, I appreciate when artists include lyric sheets in their physical records. I wanted to bring back that nostalgia of flipping through something tangible and just jamming.
To fit all 14 songs, I made two mini zines with 7 songs and a full 11inx17in custom poster on the other side for each zine. I illustrated the original front and back album covers as the posters when you open the zine all the way.
This project definitely tested my patience HAHA I had to do mental gymnastics to ensure that all pages were the right direction. It was a daunting and ambitious first zine project. Plus I gave myself a deadline so that I can give the zines to the band in time for their Grammy Museum performance.
I then created a short reel showcasing the zines and highlighting the amount of work that went into it. I wanted a title card that can hook the audience right away, so I went with the bright yellow text like a lot of trendy content creators I have seen do.
